What is Parkinson's Disease?
Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder and chronic movement disorder. PD occurs when
brain cells that make dopamine, a chemical that coordinates movement, stop working. The average age
of diagnosis is 60. The exact cause of PD is unknown. Parkinson’s disease has no known cure, and
treatments are limited in their ability to address the medical needs of individuals with the disease.
